People are now very enthusiastic about poultry. Some of them are depending on their tiny flock for fresh eggs daily for their family or a constant supply of healthy organic meat. The country chicken keeping is very easy if you spend some time and have minimal space requirements. I believe these are the most costliest in the chicken breeds available. It vary from $50 up to $2000 (1 Lakh Rupee). These birds enjoy being in human companionship as they were selective breed and they work well with people. Also these birds are used as guardian for the flock. They usually fight away predatory birds or stray dogs.

Keeping a good poultry flock is the best way to control pests. Turkey, geese, guinea fowls, Muscovy ducks are the top ranking pest controllers.

Finally, the purpose of this blog is to convey one message. To get quality eggs and meat the poultry or livestock not only need good food but also a stress free life. As birds and animals are highly stressed we are eating eggs and meat that tastes like shit. As the  animals are free range and enjoy a nature like habitat the good fat of the animal settles evenly in their body producing high quality meat and eggs. Do you remember the Ginger candy... :)

I think this post looks like the previous one but cant ignore to write.
It was also part of our culture. When we eat a lot especially non-veg we take some facilators which is also organic and healthy.
The tamil name of this is inji-marappa means ginger candy.
The golden small cubes, it tastes hot and sweet with the sharp aroma of ginger.
It is really good in improving digestion.
You can see this being sold during bus/train stations in India, this is because the tiresome travel and stress pauses our digestion. When you buy this for 25paise or 50 paise or 1 Rupee and eat it, you will get a burp and sleep well in the remaining course of travel. Its really a poor man's paradise. I ask my mom to buy 2 more and eat it when I go home.

But nowadays people nomore buy this organic herbal candy and they are after the useless diary caramel candies.

I went to an organic store in USA and surprised to see this. Its called the organic crystallized ginger candy. This is nothing but the same inji-marappa :)
This is sold for 6$ per pound, approximately 1kg = 600 Rupees.. :)

We are eating junk candies sold by american companies in India, whereas people in america are paying in dollars for the simple and powerful techniques which our elders taught us.
Its a disgrace for our elders.

Each and every bit of our culture is being patented by american business people and sold across. Why don't we open our eyes at-least now.

Everyone knows the importance of digestion, why no one from India has stood up to create quality ginger candies which every Indian would benefit and export the same to other countries boosting our economy ?

We are busy importing hersheys :) to become sick and cause disgrace our traditional knowledge.. :)...

Nut trail mix alias kadalai urundai

I used to run around the house in search of a 50 paise coin or escort any guest who comes to my home till the street corner so they would flip me a 1 rupee coin in to my hands so lavishly. The joy is unforgettable. My friends and myself even envied the glittering coin on a dead body's forehead called as Nethi Kasu :)..

This was before 15 years :)..

     

Ok, why do we need this coin for ? nothing but to go and buy a groundnut candy(Kadalai mittai). Its a candy usually in the size of a brussel sprout. It is made from ground nuts roasted till it becomes golden brown and cane jaggery sauce melt is poured on it and usually made in to small  bal like candies. These are made from indian groundnuts and cane jaggery and no other nonsense ingredients.

It gives a great aroma when you eat and it increases digestion. Usually we have a handful when going to play in ground or visit our farms, whenever we are tired we munch on it and move forward our journey.

I never thought there would be a day when this will go out of my sight. It was always a part and identity of our tradition and one fine day its nearing extinction.

This is again because of the ignorance of my dear dravidian people, they under estimated the power of these candies

1) Kadalai mittai - Groundnut bar
2) Pottukadalai urundai - Channa dhal candy

3) Pori urundai - Rice crisps candy

Due to our attraction on western culture we started to avoid eating these. It was a part of our functions and people distributed them and even they made these at home. Nowadays these are being replaced by cocoa and caramel candies. Lots and lots of small cottage industries which provided us these small packets of joy are now being crushed on by candy giants. We not only crushed those poor people involved in this domestic snack industry but also our culture. Our next generation is not going to get the joy of eating kadalai mittai.

I still see some in shops now, but its not as authentic as usual. These are machine pressed and commercially prepared and definitely of no use to poor but the rich and the middle men involved in the business.

One more thing which makes me sad is that these nutrition rich candies are now modified as nutrition bars and diet bars and sold in costco with an US patent for an unimaginable price. Its cost is 50 paise * 600 now :)... meaning atleast $6 a pack.The same idiotic people who helped eradicate my beloved indigenious candies by promoting caramel are buying these nutty bars for maintainig their waist at a higher cost not to themselves but to the dravidian community also.

Indeed they are eating diet bars because of the obesity caused by the corn syrup and caramel and other ingredients in the modern day candies.

Instead people could have supported the native kadalai mittai&sibblings and stayed healthy supporting a small family which was making a life out of it and also could have saved our culture.

Emu farming or greedy farming...

Recently there was a news in tamilnadu that the most lucrative EMU business was a bogus

I was really anticipating the downfall for a long time and was happy that it happened finally.

Today's tamil society don't know anything about farming or animal husbandry. They are following western media and conning ideas like this.

I myself asked a basic question when my neighbor started a EMU farm
1) If there is a product there should be a market, who in the world eats EMU meat ? :)...
2) Is there any track history in our tamil hostory where people did farming of such birds/animals ? Our pattan Raja Raja Chozhan conquered all islands of the pacific and also reached Australia, definitely they would have domesticated these if they were adaptable to our climate and good for our diet.
3) Any where in world do we see EMU decoration products or cosmetics ?
4) Any-other developing country doing this business ?

No is the answer, right away we could say its a fraud.

Please check these points when you ever start a agricultural business

People on average spent Rs.2,00,000 to Rs.15,00,000 on this business and are cheated and they blame the EMU farms and government for this. It is a daring mistake of these poor farmers and they should take the blame.

If they had invested this money in a proper goat farm or country chicken farm or they could have leased a farm and did some organic farming ,they would be earning descent sum of money by now.
But they didn't want to do these business because they give only slow and steady growth. These are not as fancy and prestigious like EMU farming.
This is a lesson for all our people who run behind

1) quick rich schemes
2) fancy and prestige business
3) Ignoring our ancestral business and knowledge
4) No common sense

Now its very sad to hear that these EMU are starving to death. Its a carnivore and hence the fit birds are eating the young and weak bird. Think about the mental suffering the farmer would go through ?

Brothers and sisters please listen, becoming rich is very easy if you believe in sustainability, act with some common sense and have a self control of not being attracted to fancy advertisements. We are already being cheated by global corporates and politicians. Each and every rupee is created by our sweat and we don't deserve to lose that to these wolves. Please wake up and lets make wonder

Im not here to tease or enjoy the failure of my brethren but to give a wake up call for them.

Now its time to think optimistically. These people got biased when they heard about the profit and bought all EMUs and now they are again doing the same mistake of getting biased on hearing the panic news and are selling the EMUs. Instead they should find a way to use these birds and do some profit.

1) EMU park :

Farmers should open their farm to public and schools where people can come and feed and sped some time with them. Here in USA there are very small ranches making a lot of money out of this business. A small portion of the park can have facilities like small snack shop and places to relax and read books. It would really attract people.
Also you can have combination of multiple animals with EMU where people can interact and feed them

2) EMU Ride :

EMU birds are capable of pulling cart as ostriches do. If we think innovative surely we can extract its strength. It will definitely attract people to try once. There are people out there to try horse riding in beaches and why wouldn't someone not try this ?

3) stuffed EMU :

Stuff EMU birds and create artistic dolls, surely these majestic birds will be a decorative piece to a hotel or mall or even houses. It can be sold to museums and school and college science museums. Again don't make mistake by creating monotonous statues, it should be highly creative so that it is really attractive and can be sold for huge sum of money.

4) EMU manure :

All farmers should board these birds together and form a group and send these birds to be penned in other farms for manure. They can get paid for each day a bird is boarded for the manure. This is just an idea, I don't know if this is possible.

5) EMU as a pest controller :

Lets say if EMU is good at catching rats, lets identify and prove that. Some research should be done on this. If this is possible lets promote all farmers to keep one bird in a farm house to clean from lizards and rats. This would create a steady market for these poor birds.

These are some of the ideas which I thought of, if you all think and brain storm you can come up with much more ideas than this and surely convert this loss to profit.
Don't think you are done and give up. There is a way from any point in your life and there is an answer for every problem in this world.

We Tamils feel that we are victims of globalization, I see globalization is also a colonization, invisible dominance of white masters over our people and resources,I think its the right time to bounce back.

Our great grandfather raja raja chozhan was one example to look in to know how potential we all are. Instead we are divided by local politics and caste.

Every one complains that our day to day expenses has gone high and get excuses, one question I ask is how many of you tried to overcome that.

India is an agricultural country and its our backbone, if we move away from agriculture we will become are people without backbone.

I want to encourage people to involve in agriculture and increase our produce which is the solution for all our problems.

Person 1 : Always eats in hotel, gets sick and spends to hospital and wastes lot of time and hence very low productive.


Person 2 : Grows food in his garden, eats home cooked, healthy and has a lot of time and does more than 1 business and lives happily.



Person1 is today's Tamil people and person 2 is our ancestral Tamil people. Hence they were able to create history and we are victims of day to day happenings of the world.

We should be very very innovative in our approach to outsmart other people, then only our race will survive



Category 1 : People living in apartments :

  You will be having access to less space and there is nothing much you can do, but still you can do something and succeed. There are ways to grow your own food in organic methods. You can form a local group and work together. Eg : one should create compost and other should collect seeds and one who has to maximum space should keep all the plants and take care daily. Meet at least weekly and discuss how to take it further and add new members to your team. Keep on posting pictures and progress in online groups so that it will motivate you and also others.
 
  Plan not to buy the below items from shop as the initial step and then keep on scaling up
 
  1) Cilantro - kothumalli
  2) Mint - Pudina
  3) Chilli - Milagai
  4) Greens - Keerai
  5) Drumstick and greens
  6) Tomato
  7) Ginger
 
 It may look complex but its very very easy and rewarding. Its in our blood. We Tamils are forced to do all other jobs in past 100 years but we were proper farmers for 100000 years. Don't get discouraged in the beginning keep yourself motivated always. Dont do this in a money motive in beginning but you will keep on saving some money without your knowledge.

Category 2 : People living in small independent house :

 
  You can always do everything a category 1 people can do and additionally you can do the following
 
  Chicken is a very easy and interesting activity to start with. Few years back each house in Tamilnadu had few chickens and they use to eat their organic healthy eggs and on occasions and when guest arrives they cook healthy organic chicken from home. Nowadays we are dependent on butcher shop. People are lazy and want a care free life, that's why they don't maintain chicken nowadays in home. Its really easy, they say chicken is giving bad smell (have you ever seen a coop where broilers are brought up ??).
 
  You need 4 hens and 1 cock to start a unit and that will satisfy the family's need for eggs throughout the year.
  You can also hatch some eggs naturally during summer and use them for meat purpose

Category 3 : People living in a house with a spacious yard

  You are really luck than Category 1 and 2 people and you can do a lot more wonders.
 
  Plan for a structured organic garden which gives you year round vegetables like brinjal, ladys' finger etc
  Also please plan for growing mushroom at home.
 
 
  I suggest you to grow ducks, guinea hens, Japanese quails and turkeys in home. They really thrive in our climate.
  Yes, I agree there are some challenges involved and we should overcome that to create a new history.
 
  Next important point is to rear a goat in your home. It is called the 'mobile cheque' whenever you need money you can sell it anywhere. Select a goat which is native to your locality eg: Ramnad sheep. I recommend to get some goat like jamnapuri / barbari which are high in milk yield.
 
  You think its nasty to keep goats in house, but their manure enriches your garden also you can create panchakavya from goat which acts as manure and pesticide for your organic garden.
 
  It will yield at least one or two kids which can be sold and you can milk them and manage a family's need for organic milk. Please encourage people so that every house has minimum one goat. Don't think its weird or fishy to milk a goat. It is very very nutritious and saves you a lot of money.People think they are engineers and do white collar jobs and why should they keep goat and turkey, this is what puts the future of tamils a question mark. People should get in to ground how much ever educated or rich they are, farming is our ancestral business if we forget that we are lost.
 
  Also you should make sure that you grow all the required fodder in your home. In case you need more room then again you need to form a local community 5 or more goat owners who feel its really profitable can share the work. One who has more land can grow fodder for all goats. If you gather a bigger herd, you can lease small land and grow your fodder.

  Also there are cattle like ponganur and vechur breed, they are the smallest cattle breed in this world. They give upto 2-4 litres milk a day which is very well sufficient for a small family. Also the milk is from a bos indicus or indigenious cow which is rich in A2. This milk can be sold up to Rs.60/liter. Instead of 2 goats one can go for one of these breeds of cow.

Category 4 : Small Farm house or more land

 You should make an integrated farming circuit in your land. All the fodder should be produced and no waste should be generated. Meaning all your animal waste will go to the plants and viceversa.

 You can concentrate on commercial goat farming or country chicken farming. Also selectively create a herd of milch bos indicus. Kangrej / Sahiwal and Tharparkar are good milch breeds.

 All your farm work should be carried on using draught animals, you should train and design efficient equipments to be used with these animals. One year diesel expense and tractor expense is now going to USA and DUBAI, we should stop this flow. The energy and technology should come from us. No spending on fertilizers and pesticides.
 As we import oil, we should equip ourselves in export technologies and consistently produce so that we make money out of export and make India a rich country.
